Because Palm does not personalize its ebooks to specific copies of the ebook reader software or to a single computer, copy-protected Palm ebooks can be viewed on multiple computers or PDAs. However, each copy-protected ebook must be opened with the appropriate "Purchaser's Name" and "Unlock Code" on each device.

To install the necessary software and transfer Palm ebooks to your handheld computer/PDA, follow these instructions:
  1. Download a copy of Palm Reader (handheld version) for your PalmOS or WindowsCE (PocketPC) device from Palm Digital Media.

  2. For PalmOS devices, use your Palm Hotsync Manager to install the Palm Reader application (*.prc file) and any fonts or Palm ebooks you wish to transfer to your PDA (*.pdb files). For more detailed instructions, visit the Palm Digital Media website.

  3. For WindowsCE devices, using an ActiveSync connection, install the Palm Reader software by double-clicking the *.exe file included in the downloaded files. Follow the instructions provided by the installation program. To transfer Palm ebooks to your WindowsCE device, using an ActiveSync connection, copy any Palm ebooks you wish to read on your PDA into your ActiveSync folder and synchronize your PocketPC with your computer. For more detailed instructions, visit www.microsoft.com.

  4. If the Synchronization completes without error, open the Palm Reader (Peanut Reader) application on your PDA. It will prompt you to open an ebook or tell you that there are no ebooks installed on your PDA.

  5. If Palm Reader requests a "Purchaser's Name" and "Unlock Code", these will be the name and credit card number you provided when you purchased the ebook.
If you have not yet downloaded an ebook, please review the section on Downloading your first ebook.
