Adobe eBook Reader is no longer being developed or supported by Adobe Systems, Inc. Users are encouraged to begin using Adobe's latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing and downloading ebooks.
Please start by reading Adobe's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Adobe Acrobat 6.x.
WARNING:
You will not be able to read your ebooks in Adobe Ebook Reader after you have migrated them to Adobe Acrobat (6.x or greater) nor will you be able to convert them back to Adobe Ebook Reader.
Before you can transfer your old Adobe ebooks from Adobe Ebook Reader, you must first install and activate Adobe Acrobat (6.x or greater). Here's how to do it.
- Be sure to Back up the Data directory in your Acrobat eBook Reader installation directory before proceeding.
- Remove (uninstall) Acrobat eBook Reader. Do not delete any files in the Acrobat eBook Reader Data directory after uninstalling the program.
- Download a copy of Adobe Acrobat 6.x for your computer. Please note: in order to have ebook functionality, you must download the multimedia options for Adobe Acrobat (step 2 of the download process).
- Install Adobe Acrobat 6.x on your computer by following the instructions provided by Adobe.
- Activate your copy of Adobe Acrobat 6.x using "Named Activation" by opening your copy of Adobe Acrobat and choosing the "Adobe DRM Activator" from the "Advanced" or "Tools" menu under "Ebook Web Services" or visit Adobe's DRM Activator website. (Please note that "EZ Activation" available in Adobe Acrobat 6.0.1 and greater cannot be used to read previously downloaded ebooks, including those migrated from Adobe eBook Reader.)
- After activating Adobe Acrobat (6.x or greater), download the "eBook Migration Utility" for your operating system. This download link will be provided on Adobe's DRM Activator website.
- Exit both Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Ebook Reader.
- Install and run the "eBook Migration Utility." This will copy your old ebooks from Adobe Ebook Reader to your new copy of Adobe Acrobat (6.x or greater) and re-encrypt them under your newly activated account. For more information on how the account works for purchasing and downloading ebooks, please refer to the section on how the download works.
Please Note: If you uninstall your old copy of Adobe Ebook Reader after you have installed Adobe Acrobat (6.x or greater), you will remove some files necessary for purchasing and downloading ebooks with your new copy of Adobe Acrobat. To correct the problem, you will have to reinstall/repair your copy of Adobe Acrobat (6.x or greater) by using the installation application, the original installation CD, or by using the "Detect and Repair" tool under the "Help" menu in Adobe Acrobat (6.x or greater).
