Can't Find the Downloaded eBook
If your ebook does not appear in the "bookshelf" or "library" of your ebook reader software, you can use the find or search tool on your computer to locate it. Here is how ebooks are typically stored for Adobe, Microsoft, and Palm.
| Adobe |
Microsoft |
Palm |
All eBooks downloaded using Adobe Reader 6.0 (or greater) on Windows are stored in the My eBooks directory within the My Documents folder. On MacOSX, eBooks are stored in the eBooks folder within the Documents folder.
If you are using Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader, your Adobe ebooks will be stored in the "Data" folder within your Adobe eBook Reader directory.
All Adobe ebooks have file names that end with the following string of text: ".pdf". To locate all of your Adobe ebooks, you can search your computer for files with this text (the next section below describes how to do this).
For more details on the ebook download, please review the section "How the ebook download works." |
Microsoft ebooks are typically stored in the My Library directory within the My Documents folder. However, during the transfer, they are typically stored as a temporary internet file until the download is complete. If you are having trouble finding your Microsoft ebook after it has downloaded, please review common problems with Microsoft ebooks.
All Microsoft ebooks have file names that end with the following string of text: ".lit". To locate all of your Microsoft ebooks, you can search your computer for files with this text (the next section below describes how to do this).
For more details on the ebook download, please review the section "How the ebook download works." |
Palm eBooks can be stored anywhere on your computer; typically, you will specify a preferred location during the download process.
All Palm ebooks end with the following string of text: ".pdb". To locate all of your Palm ebooks, you can search your computer for files with this text (the next section below describes how to do this).

Using Your Computer's Find or Search Tool
If you can’t find the eBook you downloaded there are several options you should try:
- Check the directory structure used by your eBook download software. For example, in Windows, the My Documents and/or My Library folders are often used for storing ebooks.
- If you are using Windows:
Please use Windows Explorer to search for the file extension corresponding to the ebook format you are searching for:
- Open "Explorer"
- Go to "Tools" on the toolbar
- Highlight "Find", then "Files or Folders"
- For "Named" type in the appropriate file extention; for example: "*.lit"
- Adobe Acrobat Reader* uses "*.pdf"
- Adobe eBook Reader uses "*.pdf"
- Microsoft Reader uses "*.lit"
- Palm Reader uses "*.pdb"
- For "Look in", from the pulldown menu select, "C:"
- Click on "Find Now"
- Highlight and double-click on the correct title to open
- If you are using Mac OS:
Currently Microsoft Reader is not compatible with Mac OS. Only Adobe and Palm have Mac OS compatible eBook reader software:
- Open "Sherlock"
- For "Find" type in the appropriate file extention; for example: "*.pdf"
- Adobe Acrobat Reader* uses "*.pdf"
- Adobe eBook Reader uses "*.pdf"
- Palm Reader uses "*.pdb"
- Click on the Search icon
- Highlight and doubleclick on the correct title to open
- Contact the retailer from which you purchased your ebook and request the filename or arrange for a new download.
